Indoor and Outdoor LED Lighting for METALCOLOR
More sustainable, more efficient, and more cost-effective
Founded in 1981 in Forel, near Lausanne, Switzerland, METALCOLOR specializes in the continuous coating of aluminium coils (coil coating). With an annual production of 16,000 tonnes, the company is now the leading supplier of pre-painted aluminium strips for European roller shutter slat manufacturers, which account for approximately 60% of its sales. Its product range also includes various building solutions such as roller shutters, suspended ceilings, and other construction-related products.
Sustainability is a core value at METALCOLOR. The company continuously invests in renewing its equipment to ensure the quality and reliability of its production processes. The optimization of machinery, the reduction of waste, the collaborative reorganization of operator workflows, the continuous improvement of production recipes, and the energy optimization of its buildings all contribute to reducing both energy consumption and environmental impact while lowering operating costs.
When METALCOLOR undertook the construction of its new production hall, one of its key objectives was to provide optimal working conditions for employees while minimizing energy consumption. As a result, LED lighting quickly emerged as the ideal solution.
Impressed by the efficiency and performance of the proposed luminaires, the company subsequently decided to replace the lighting in several other work areas throughout the facility:
A New Production Hall and the Modernization of the Storage Area
To illuminate the new production hall, 27 INDUBAY G3 luminaires were installed, including four units equipped with integrated batteries for emergency lighting.
Each luminaire features an integrated motion sensor, ensuring that lighting is activated only when required, whether by the presence of a person or a machine. The luminaires can also be controlled via DALI through a KNX system, making it possible to manage different lighting scenarios by zone depending on the time of day and the hall's level of activity. When production activity is high, for example, it is preferable to maintain continuous lighting in order to avoid a "disco effect" caused by frequent switching on and off.
The indoor storage area was also upgraded, with the installation of 30 INDULINE luminaires, further improving lighting quality while increasing energy efficiency throughout the facility.
The building's parking areas and outdoor surroundings
The access roads leading to the industrial halls and outdoor parking areas were upgraded with the installation of around twenty TECEO 1 luminaires equipped with 32 LEDs, mounted on 5-metre painted poles. These luminaires were programmed to provide different lighting levels according to predefined schedules, ensuring both energy efficiency and user comfort.
To illuminate the perimeter of the building and the loading and unloading areas, 14 INDUFLOOD floodlights were installed, providing powerful and reliable lighting for safe operations and improved visibility.
