High-performance sports lighting and more flexible management to adapt to every use
Meeting the lighting needs of two football pitches
BX Brussels' football pitches needed a lighting upgrade. On the main pitch, the existing installation was no longer providing the required lighting levels to meet football federation standards.
The club also wanted to improve the lighting on its second pitch and make it easier to adapt the lighting levels for different activities, such as training, matches and partial-pitch use.
The challenge was to solve two problems with a single installation: achieving the required light level and gaining greater flexibility.
130 lux to meet the main pitch requirements
The club initially requested a minimum lighting level of 100 lux. However, following a site visit, we identified that this level would be too low. Our team therefore recommended increasing it to 130 lux to improve the lighting quality and provide a more comfortable visual experience for players and spectators.
A photometric study determined the positioning and orientation of the LED floodlights to meet the specific requirements for football pitch lighting. The result is uniform lighting across both pitches, making the ball easier to see and improving visual comfort for players, coaches, and spectators. The upgraded installation also enables the main pitch to meet the lighting requirements for certification.
Flexible lighting for every training session
The layout of the site presented an additional challenge, as the two pitches share some poles. When only half a pitch is in use for training, there is no need to illuminate the entire facility.
The Schréder ITERRA control system enables the club to manage different lighting zones independently. Schréder worked closely with the club’s coaches to define lighting scenarios tailored to their daily needs.
Using the Schréder ITERRA app, coaches can easily select which zones to illuminate and adjust the lighting level. During training sessions, the installation operates at 60% power, while matches can be lit at 100%.
By only illuminating the necessary areas and adjusting the light levels for each activity, the club avoids having to turn on all the floodlights at full power

A project delivered from study to commissioning
Schréder was involved throughout the entire project: from assessing the existing installation and carrying out a photometric study to designing the new sports lighting solution, commissioning the installation and taking final lighting measurements.
BX Brussels now has lighting that meets the requirements for its main football pitch, with the flexibility to support day-to-day activities. Coaches can adapt the lighting to their training sessions, while the club has an installation designed to meet the demands of official matches.
